Finding Local Support

The IAHE highly recommends that homeschooling families become a part of a local support group.  In Indiana there are nearly 250 support groups.  They all exist to provide encouragement, information, socialization, and friendship for homeschooling families.  However, just as homeschools differ, support groups differ.  Some are designed for educational purposes. Some focus on field trips or special interests, such as history or drama.  Some are ‘co-op’ groups where the parents share the teaching responsibilities.

As a means of connecting new homeschoolers to support within their own community, the IAHE has selected 16 experienced homeschooling couples as Regional Representatives.  Each Representative is a ‘veteran’ homeschooler who can answer the questions from families just starting out.  Regional Representatives also communicate with the local support groups in their region and keep them up to date on changes in the law and activities throughout the state.  You can contact your Regional Representative for information about spelling bees, sports clubs, book fairs, curriculum advice, workshops, standardized testing and convention information.  Regional Representatives can also help you find a support group in your area, or if none is available, they’ll help you start one.

A listing of the current Regional Representatives is found in The Informer or on this site.
